7th March 2009 Ossett People update with the story of John Wheelwright who was allegedly born in Gawthorpe, Ossett. Wheelwright's charity, the Wheelwright Trust established after his death in 1724 was responsible for the founding of Rishworth School, Halifax and Wheelwright Grammar School in Dewsbury.

19th July 2009 Added three names to Ossett Common Rovers picture in the Picture Gallery courtesy of Bill Tilford.
4th August 2009 Major update - New section named "Flushdyke Sketches" featuring over thirty original sketches of old Flushdyke by Douglas Brammer. Clicking on the smaller black and white sketch brings up a larger, colour picture in a new window with additional comments detailing the history of each scene. Thanks to Douglas Brammer for sharing his work and giving permission for the sketches to be used on this web site.
4th September 2009 Added paragraph in "Ossett History - 19th Century" about the 1822 death of John Harrap, husband of "Bet Checker" a notorious Ossett woman who was serving time in prison at the time of her husband's death for passing counterfeit coins. Hat tip to Alan Howe for finding this extract in the Leeds Mercury archive.
5th September 2009 Added obituary for Eli Marsden Wilson from the 'Ossett Observer' dated 20th November 1965. Thanks to Neville Ashby for forwarding a copy of the obituary in an email.

In the "Flushdyke Sketches" page, added rare 1771 hand-drawn map of Flushdyke used in a legal dispute between Joshua Haigh and Joseph Ingham, both of Ossett (thanks Alan Howe). Also added extra information to "Picture Gallery - Ossett Common Rovers 1964" (thanks David Sexton).

22nd November 2009 Added more new pictures to the Picture Gallery and also swapped out some of the existing pictures for higher quality scans thanks to pictures supplied by Richard Glover of Ossett.
3rd December 2009 Added some extra information about Ossett Workshouse plus general tidying up in the 18th Century account of Ossett's history.
19th December 2009 Added four more Ossett pictures to the Picture Gallery Section.
8th January 2010

Added new picture of Eli Marsden Wilson at his home in Acton London with his companion Mary Cockburn circa 1958 and another Wilson etching, probably of Bank Street, Ossett in Edwardian or Victorian times. Added extra text information (Mortuary House) to Flushdyke Workhouse sketch page. Thanks Margaret Wilby.
